The leaves of the Vriesea Fosteriana 'Red Chestnut' make a reservoir for holding water; keep this filled and flush the reservoir with fresh water weekly to prevent stagnation,
Soaking Frequency: Every 3 weeks.
Depending on the size of your kokedama, fill a bowl, bucket, or sink with room temperature water.
Place your kokedama in the water, plant side up. Push the moss ball down so that it is fully submerged and begins to absorb water. Allow to soak for 10-25 minutes, or until fully saturated with water.
Note: We use rainwater. If you use tap water, we recommend letting a bucket of water seat outside for at least 8 hours at daylight while the chlorine evaporates.
Place the Vriesea Red Chestnut in semi-shade or bright, filtered sunlight. Good locations include a South or East facing window. Avoid direct, intense light, which may scorch the foliage.
Vriesea Red Chesnut only requires occasional fertilization. Use a water-soluble fertilizer formulated for bromeliads or air plants. Alternatively, use an all-purpose fertilizer diluted to one-fourth to one-eighth of the solution. Withhold fertilizer during late Autumn and Winter months. Keep Vriesea on average to warm room temperatures. Never expose the plant to freezing or extreme temperatures.
